Freihofer's Run for Women Getting Even Better!

by Kristen Hislop

How can you make a great event even better? We ask ourselves that question daily. When you talk to a lot of 5K athletes a theme arises. "I remember running the kids races." "I loved getting a box of Freihofer's chocolate chip cookies." "One year Freddie Freihofer was at the kids runs." "The kids in my family all ran together." What we hear are all good memories - isn't that the way we want all kids starting their run journey. The Capital Kids Junior 3K (ages 6-14) offers awards, timing, a cool t-shirt and a box of Freihofer's Chocolate Chip cookies for just $20. The Kids Runs (ages 1-6) are free with a t-shirt and box of Freihofer's Chocolate Chip cookies at the finish line. If that isn't enough this year we are adding a new enticement at the finish line. Osito (Bimbo Bakeries bear) will be waiting for all Capital Kids 3K and Kids Run finishers! Of course, we need volunteers to hand them out too. Click here to volunteer.

What else do we have going on? You can help us find a mom who exemplifies the Freihofer’s Run for Women and our belief in women’s empowerment, supporting our community and lifting up each other! Click here to send in your nominations.  Our chosen winner will get free entry to the 2023 event.

For many years the Freihofer's Run for Women has had a variety of team competitions. You can be in it for the awards (this year by the women owned company Anne Cate) or just to run/walk under a fun name with your sister, friends or company. Would your company sponsor a team? Why not ask! We can set up a code and will bill them after the race. Companies can create a corporate team and have a tent in our new team tent area. Yes - teams can bring a tent to the event. If you are interested in either, just send an email to runninginfo@freihofersrun.com

We do need to give a shout out to a couple of our Freihofer's Run for Women elites. In 2018 Emma Bates cross the line in sixth. This year she was 1st American and fifth across the line at Boston. Sara Hall who has won (2017) and placed second (2016) at Freihofer's Run for Women was the first Masters athlete over the line in 2:25:48 with a new American record. Of course, there were other alumni racing and we were cheering them all on! Be on the lookout as we announce the 2023 field. You will see these women breaking the tape at races all over the country and world!
