Get ready! The CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge is Coming in May!

by Ben Heller and Chris Bishop

We are all aware of the phrase "fear of missing out" (FOMO), where we are afraid of missing out on a good time. There is an outstanding event in the Capital Region, that is so much fun, healthy, epic, and luckily, there’s plenty of time to sign up! FOMO gone!

The Workforce Team Challenge sponsored by the Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club (HMRRC) is a rite of passage in the local running community, and the biggest sporting event in the area. The size of the race is important as it provides an opportunity for local businesses to showcase their commitment to health and wellness and to support the community in a tangible way. Additionally, the large number of participants creates a sense of excitement and energy in Albany as people come together to celebrate fitness, teamwork, and camaraderie.

This race can also change lives. Many people join to support their fellow workmates but have never run. However, as they train, many come to love running and pursue the sport further advancing from 5Ks to half marathons and then even to marathons! How healthy can you get!! You lose weight, feel fitter and tackle life’s problems with gusto.

Philanthropy is a noteworthy feature. Every year a charity of choice is chosen and promoted by the HMRRC. This year it is the Trinity Community Center. Over the history of the race, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised to help charities that serve our community. Additionally, the HMRRC uses the profits from this race to help fund its community outreach programs such as generous scholarships to worthy college-bound students: the Just Run Program that promotes running programs in elementary schools in the area; and grants for community improvements to promote exercise and health.

A fun part of the event is seeing the wild array of t-shirts that corporate teams wear. HMRRC has photographers that take colorful pictures of entire teams wearing their t-shirts and put them online at the Pace Setter. Teams are encouraged to enter their designs into a t-shirt contest, making the race even more fun.  The winning t-shirts line the Awards Ceremony area at the Empire State Plaza.

If you want to be one of the companies that contributes to this event we care so passionately about, there are numerous unique sponsorship opportunities available on https://cdphpwtc.com/sponsors/

In addition, if you would like to volunteer to help in this large and complex event, that would be awesome. Click here and we will contact you about an array of areas to choose from to help make this extraordinary event a success.
