Winter Series Kicks Off December 4

The collective name of our winter events will now be the Ed Thomas Winter Series in tribute to club member Ed Thomas. Ed was instrumental in organizing the first such Winter events and continued to serve as our liaison with the University until his recent death on November 1.

Other races in the Ed Thomas Winter Series include the Hangover Half (13.1 miles) and Bill Hogan 3.5 Mile (January 1), WS #3 (3 mile, 10K, 25K) on January 15, WS #4 (3 mile, 15K, 30K) on January 29, and WS #5 (4.5 mile, 10 mile, 20 mile) on February 12. HMRRC's Winter Marathon has been consolidated into the WS #5 events and will be held on February 12. The Winter Marathon relay has been dropped from the schedule. Note that there is an application and entry fee for the Winter Marathon. Go to http://www.hudsonmohawkrrc.com/wm44th_application_2017.pdf for information.

The Hangover Half and WS #5 10 miles races are HMRRC Grand Prix events. The club has decided to award cash prizes to its Grand Prix winners in 2017, with a top prize of $300 to be awarded to the first place male and female finishers in 6 age categories. GP cash prizes go 7 deep. See the related article for more details on the Grand Prix.

The club will award Ed Thomas Winter Series ”survivor” awards to runners who participate in all 5 events races, including volunteering for at least one of the events.

The Winter Series has historically been among HMRRC's most popular events. Camaraderie is the distinguishing feature. Come test your mettle in the cold and at some challenging distances!
