Speaking of marathons...

I think I know the answer to the question, but I'd like to hear it from those who know better than me.

Assuming I'm properly trained going into a mid-June marathon, is a half two weeks later out of the question?

I was originally planning on running the full Lake Placid Marathon, then a friend requested I join her and a friend as part of a relay team for the Tinman half Ironman, which would be two weeks later (both of our hubbies are doing them entirely on our own). I think you all realize I would be the runner of the relay.

Anywho, I'd rather not disappoint as a runner on a relay and would run the half in LP if necessary, but I don't want to wuss out if it can be done.

More background, I'm a fairly solid middle distance runner, not fast, just decently trained. LP wouldn't be my first marathon but I'm not superbly versed in them either. I'm only sharing in case it makes a difference.

I'm guessing the answer is "no" if I want to have a good showing in the half, but again, throwing it out to those in the know.

Thanks all.

And i'm questioning the wisdom of running an 8k the day before a half!  smile

not that i would know, but I would think that if you advised your friend that you're coming off a marathon, and you ran the half un-competitively, then ok.  maybe leave it up to your friends to decide if they'd rather have someone more "fresh"?

A widely cited rule of thumb is that you need 1 day of recovery for each mile raced.
