Would you like to be a forum moderator?

How would you like to have the title “moderator” under your name on these forums?  In general, a moderator’s job is to keep things civil within a forum (not really an issue here) and to stimulate participation by posting topics of interest and responding to other’s posts.  Eventually we would like to have up to 6 moderators active at any given time (2 per forum), and make these revolving positions lasting from 6 to 12 months.  Of course this all depends on the level of response.  If we have to start out with one or two moderators, we’ll work with that.

If you’re interested in becoming a moderator, or would like more information, please drop us a line at HMRRCAdmin@gmail.com.  Please note which forum you would prefer to moderate (News and Information, Let’s Go Running or Training).  If you have ideas on how to make the forums more useful and active, please share them by posting a message about them.   Additional information about these forums can be found in an article in the February PaceSetter on page 13.

Re: Would you like to be a forum moderator?

You may be asking yourself how accepting the challenge of being an HMRRC Message Board Moderator might change your life.  “No”, you say?  Well, hang on to your spankies ‘cause you’re gonna find out anyway.

The first and most obvious perk will be that your every post will carry the weighty title of MODERATOR directly beneath your forum name, instantaneously lending the full power and authority of the title you hold to your messages.   Not only will this badge be stamped on every post you add to the forums going forward, but incredibly, it will also be added to every post you have ever submitted going back to the very nanosecond that these forums were born.  Even the most ridiculous and inane messages will gain the respect and admiration of the massive hordes of runners populating these wildly popular forums.

Tune in tomorrow for more about how your life could change…

Re: Would you like to be a forum moderator?

Did we mention how prestigious it is to hold the title HMRRC Message Board Moderator?  (HMBM, if you need more letters after your name.)  If you were to request, and subsequently be awarded one of these highly-prized positions--nay, ambassadorship I daresay is a more accurate term, to be frank-- you would actually be the first, and only, HMRRC Message Board Moderator … IN … THE … WORLD.   We kid you not.  This is no joke.   We’re serious.

Before you send that e-mail we urge you to consider whether you have what it takes to handle the staggering responsibility that comes with this assignment.

Tomorrow, the nitty-gritty about that staggering responsibility.  In the meantime, keep those e-mails pouring in.  :-/  (Is there a gmail outage or something?) And don’t be afraid to add your own thoughts to this, or any other thread.

Re: Would you like to be a forum moderator?

So, where were we?  Oh yes, the staggering responsibilities of the forum moderator.   Though few in number they are, let’s be honest, staggering.   Here we go…

1.    Facilitate.  Keep things alive.  Post regularly, and on a great variety of subjects (but hopefully having something to do with the forum being moderated).  Encourage discussion and don’t be afraid of controversy.  Pose questions, provide opinions, reply to ignored posts.

2.    Moderate.  In other words, play the diplomat.  If verbal scuffles break out and things start to get ugly, it is the moderator’s job to prevent an all out melee.   Using every key on the keyboard, if necessary.

3.    Recruit.  OK, it’s true, recruitment is not traditionally the responsibility of a moderator, but have you counted up the number of recent posts?  Let’s face it, these are desperate times.  Get friends posting.  And family. Pay them if you have to.

All in all kind of a tough job.   But imagine the satisfaction you could feel helping to make this board a more active, useful and interesting destination for runners of the capital district.  Heck, for runners anywhere!

Do you think we left something out?  Post it now.

Here's a thought - why not post the moderator's name in the index?  There is no doubt that some of the people tend to be more "lively" than others and may spark more responses.

Re: Would you like to be a forum moderator?

Good suggestion.  Have updated the category titles to include space for moderator names.  Will fill these in once we have people assigned.  Is this what you meant?

Re: Would you like to be a forum moderator?

Well, it seems that it’s about time to wrap this thread up.  We’ve made our plea, described the responsibilities, tried to elicit questions, and though we had hoped for a little more feedback, we’re optimistic.   As time goes on and more people get around to reading this, we hope they will respond to our request.  As long as there are fewer than two mods per forum category, which you can now see thanks to the ADAMSFAMILY, our appeal will remain open.

Marcia here (so I can distinquish what part of the Adams Family is on line).  I have been thinking about it and I think I would like to take a shot at Improvements and Suggestions as a moderator.  Since I tend to go to club meetings monthly, it may be a good way to get ideas to the club when one comes out of the discussion.

Re: Would you like to be a forum moderator?

Welcome to our newest forum Moderator Myriad, who will be moderating the Training forum.  Thanks for volunteering!

We still have a need for more moderators, so don't be shy.  If you are an HMRRC club member and would like to get involved, please send an e-mail to HMRRCAdmin@gmail.com

Re: Would you like to be a forum moderator?

Hello. I recently filled out a Moderator application. But no one has gotten back to me. Maybe there is something that I did wrong. Or maybe I don't apply to become one yet. I am not sure. I would really appreciate it if you would get back to me. Thank you so much
