Topic: Shoes for suponator?

Message: I hope I helped some (keep in mind my caveat about free advice). However, I don't want to give you the idea that my experience will be yours. I was prescribed an orthotic, but it wasn't custom molded from my foot. In the long run, I think the orthotic I was prescribed was needed to make up for what the shoe didn't do. In my case the right shoe alleviated the problem. If you need orhtotics, you need orthotics. I'd hate for you to think that some shoe advice is automatically going to have you throwing away your orthotics. Once again, I was lucky. My suggestion is to try on as many brands as possible. I would not have even looked at Adidas were they not suggested to me. By that token I have never run in Reeboks or Mizunos either. The only store I know of is in Absolute Fitness on route 9 in Latham. They don't carry Adidas, but they have Nike, Brooks, New Balance, and Asics. They can do a good job of fitting you. Good Luck.

Topic: Shoes for suponator?

Message: Hi JP. Yeah I think you are right. I have custom orthodics i.e. I had to get styrofoam molds of my feet and such. I think that is what I got them for. I remember my first pair of trainers in middle school was a pair of adidas, and I have to admit I havent really revisted adidas, as I thought they lost their artistic nature with all the gray shoes they put out. I am do for a new shoe and I would really enjoy not having to wear orthodics. It feels uncomfortable on some of the longer runs and I still find myself running with an outward motion. You said a "good running shoe store" ... do we have any in the Capital District? All I ever see is are commercials for stores in NYC and such. Thanks again JPBenn

Topic: Shoes for suponator?

Message: Please remember this advice is free, and you get what you pay for. Suppination, according to most sources is not typical. I'm assuming that with orthotics, someone, presumably a podiatrist, figured you for a pronator (the more common situation). I had the same problem of landing on the outside of my foot/heel when I wore Asics. I wore the 2100 series and then shelled out the big bucks for the Kayano. The pain on the outside of my right foot got so bad that I suspected I had a stress fracture. This was even with orthotics prescribed for pronation. One day a friendly shoe guy in a store in PA said point blank: "those are not the shoes for you" (the Kayanos). He put me in a pair of Adidas Supernova Controls and I have been pain free ever since. I even ditched the orthotics (they weren't custom ones). For me, at least, the Asics somehow seemed to throw my foot into a outward motion. The Adidas work for me, they are supportive, yet cushioned and responsive (also cheaper). Now, all this having been said. No one can prescribe shoes over the internet. Furthermore, what worked for me may not work for you. However, I suspect you simply need a more supportive shoe. Try to get to a good running shoe store (not one of the chains like Dick's). But, give the Supernova Control a look, it's more rigid through the midfoot than the 2100 and I think that sounds like what you need. Good luck

Topic: Shoes for suponator?

Message: I believe I am a "suponator" (sp?). and I find that when I run, even with orthodics in I land on the outside of my feet and heels. Now I believe it is because I am slightly bowlegged, but is there a particular shoe anyone has found that might be helpful? I currently just wear Asics' 2000 and 2100 line, as I always have, and once got a good season of running out of New Balance's 991's, but I am looking for a new trainer and a set of xc and track spikes. Anyone that could help, please don't be afraid to voice your opinion and/ or suggestion(s). Thanks!Benn
